🇺🇦 Pictured: UA struck the Russian Army HQ in Nova Kakhovka, Kherson, using a HIMARS, k1lling Major General Nasbulin, (along with several Colonels and Lt. Colonels). I THINK one of the Colonels was commander of the Black Fleet’s 810th Naval Infantry brigade.
🇺🇦 If my tracker is right, this makes 16 generals (15+1). The previous two I had recorded were General Roman Kutuzov and Lieutenant General Roman Berdnikov on June 6th.
🇺🇦 Ten armored combat vehicles were destroyed in that attack as well. Update: it appears up to 50 vehicles were damaged, including armored combat vehicles, fuel supply trucks, etc
🇺🇦 The above strike is the big news of the day. This is the fourth time ammunition depots have been destroyed in Nova Kakhovka
🇺🇦 An anecdote: “People’s windows are broken, but they are still happy because it means that the Armed Forces of Ukraine is close.”
🇺🇦 Ukraine partisans are firebombing Russian recruitment offices, and derailing trains. Derailing trains is an ongoing thing, though this is the first time I’m mentioning it.
🇺🇦 UA’s liberation of Snake Island has led to 8 civilian ships to export Ukrainian grain
🇺🇦 Ukraine will receive Slovakia’s entire air fleet of MiG-29 Fulcrum fighters or 12 combat aircraft, one of which was used as a trainer by the Slovak Air Force.
🇺🇦 Iran will deliver armed drones to Russia. Update: Iran will send several hundred drones to Russia, some of which are armed.
🇺🇦 The US has signified the Kerch Bridge from Russia to Crimea is in fact a fair target.
🇺🇦 Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is granting Russia use of their airspace…imo it’s likely the only way Lukashenko can give Putin support without committing actual forces, which the Belarusian people are absolutely against
🇺🇦 Russian forces conducted localized ground assaults northwest of Kharkiv City.
🇺🇦 A mob has stormed Sri Lanka’s presidential palace, as it appears a full scale revolution is underway. This was 100% caused by food shortages that resulted from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
🇺🇦 US Secretary of State Blinken says that we are witnessing the results of Russia’s aggression play out all over the globe.
🇺🇦 There is a bunch of drama surrounding energy dependence on Russia in Europe. I’m sorry, I’m not following the details at the moment. Germany is the big player in this topic.
🇺🇦 Ukraine forces set up operations in an elderly nursing home about 500km south of Kyiv. The nursing home was struck and tragedy ensued (I’ll spare details). The thing is, once a military force uses an otherwise off-limits facility—such as a mosque, a school, a church, a hospital—It looses its status as non-combatant entity protected under the umbrella of the laws and rules of war. So when Ukraine set up in the nursing home, the nursing home became a fair target. This is a harsh lesson for Ukraine, and perhaps while not fair due to Russia’s history of abject unfairness, these are the rules. If nothing else, this determines the amount of western sympathy a country will get.
🦗A group of people in India ran a fake professional Cricket league for weeks and trick Russians to gamble on it. That has no impact on anything, but adds a bit of levity to the last bullet point! Thanks, Phil
📢 Countries apply to be in NATO. NATO is a defense alliance that has never, and does not, consider offensive operations. Saying NATO is encroaching on Russia is Kremlin messaging. Russia has three primary propaganda efforts directed at the West, and that’s the first.
📢 Yes, Ukraine has a nazi problem, but it’s a very small percentage of the country, and not representative of the whole. Using a small group to smear the entire group is called “guilt by association.” Russia has three primary propaganda efforts directed at the West, and that’s the second.
📢 If you ever hear anyone say “What about this thing America did…” or “what about Palestine?” in an effort to redirect attention away from Ukraine and onto the west, that is called “Competitive victimhood” and the associated meme is *always* created by Russian-backed media. Russia has three primary propaganda efforts directed at the West, and that’s the third.
⚠️ Sorry about the typos or awkward sentences!!!! This is the inevitable result of putting out a finalized research product once every 24 hours, with no staff. If anyone feels like giving me staff, we can polish this b right up!
⚠️ I got lazy with my citations and I apologize. My top sources are: Current and former military planners, singularly-focused pundits, and all manner of vetted open-source intelligence. Top cited open source pundits and sources include: CP Scott, Institute for the Study of War, Kyiv Independent, and mainstream news with high levels of journalistic integrity and track records. Sadly I can’t source private individuals, of course.
⚠️ Speaking of sources, thanks to all of you who have forwarded me tips or given me data from the front line. You’re the private individuals I wish I could source publicly
⚠️ Though my awesome employer taught me everything I know about OSINT, these posts are not affiliated with my employer, nor done during my employer’s time. Every item I report is from my own research, my own opinion, and written during my own time.
⚠️ Note: War happens fast and even high fidelity news needs a ton of corrections after the dust settles.
🇺🇦 Sorry to my Substack readers who get this weird “ua” symbol instead of a flag emoji!
